What is a Product?

A Product refers to a solution or offering that is created and delivered to meet a specific need or address a problem.

In the world of intangible products, there is no clear difference between a service and a product. The focus should steer away from delineating the difference between service and product and should remain on the value provided to the customer.

It's important to remember that a product extends beyond its features to encompass the entire user experience, including aspects such as usability, reliability, and customer support.

Products have ongoing lifecycles — projects have a start and an end date.

Every product has a customer who is a:

  • User: Anyone who gets value from your product, whether they pay for it or not
  • Buyer: Anyone who pays for your product, whether they use it or not
  • Both

Every product has a producer who receives a core benefit through:

  • Revenue increase
  • Cost decrease or avoidance
  • Societal benefit

There is always a Product.
